Wild elephants invading Hambantota

Elephant corridors in Hambantota have been bulldozed and jungles have been cleared beyond the limit resulting in invasion of wild elephants in Hambantota, Wildlife Officer said.

The elephant reserves that come under the purview of Kahagalwalawewa were also cleared saying that these reserves will be brought under various cultivations.

But to date, no cultivation of any nature has been initiated in the areas. Meanwhile, residents of these areas spend sleepless nights to protect their families and cultivations from wild elephants.
