Indian National Poet Bharathiar’s 100th death anniversary marked

The Indian Consulate observed the 100th death anniversary of India's National Poet Subramaniya Bharathiar yesterday morning.

Consul General Raakesh Natraj Jayabhaskaran garlanded and offered floral tribute to the "Mahakavi" at the Consulate and India House.

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda, Parliamentarians Angajan Ramanathan, Dr. Suren Raghavan, M. A. Sumanthiran, Selvam Adaikkalanathan, Dharmalingam Siddharthan, S. Sritharan, C. V. Wigneswaran, Northern Provincial Council Chairman C. V. K. Sivagnanam, Jaffna Mayor V. Mannivannan, former Parliamentarians Suresh Premachandran and M. K. Sivajilingam, former Head of the Department of Tamil, Jaffna University Prof. S. Sivalingarajah marked their respects to the Mahakavi through video and audio messages.
