CEO granted bail

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a leading private software company who was arrested in connection with the loss of data from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) digital database was granted bail by Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya yesterday.

The Additional Magistrate ordered the suspect to be released on two sureties of Rs.1,000,000 each and imposed a travel ban on him.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested him on last Wednesday in connection with the incident in which several files in the NMRA database had been erased due to an alleged mistake by an engineer. It was revealed last July that some data in the system had been deleted.

However, on September 4, it has been revealed that the lost data were restored and the originals related to the deleted data are safe.

The Magistrate issued an order suspending the upgrade of the Lanka Government Cloud Server managed by the ICTA. The Additional Magistrate also issued notice on the ICTA Director to appear before Court on next calling date. The case will be taken up again on September 13.
