Teachers’ Union requests for time frame to resolve salary issue

Members of Teachers’ Trade Unions are willing to resume their official duties immediately if the authorities give a time frame for the implementation of the Cabinet Sub-Committee recommendations, which proposed solutions to the Teacher-Principal salary anomalies, All Sri Lankan Teachers’ Union Kurunegala District Convener R.A. Dayaratne said.

“So far, the proposed recommendations on rectifying salary anomalies of teachers are not declared by the Government. Therefore, all teacher unions request the Government authorities concerned to issue a circular early explaining the proposed time frame when the issues of salary anomalies of Teachers and School heads are addressed in the future, most probably in 2022. Thereafter, all teacher unions are now ready to resume their duties and responsibilities as usual for the benefit of the student population of this country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera , a member of the Ministerial Sub-Committee said that the Government has offered the best possible solution to the teachers over their salary anomalies despite the prevailing economic downfall due to the pandemic.

“Hence, school teachers are kindly requested to resume their teaching process to help the student population to go ahead in their studies. To rectify these salary anomalies, a sum of Rs. 32 billion is required by the Government annually,” he said.
