CTU rejects solutions for teachers’ salary anomalies

The Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) has rejected the decision made by the Government to provide teachers with a Rs.5,000 allowance until their proposals are included in the 2022 Budget and to include recommendations submitted to the National Salaries Commission (NSC) in 2018, in the Budget.

CTU Secretary said that until the full proposed amount is included, installments cannot be accepted. Union Secretary Joseph Stalin said that the ongoing teacher-principal struggle will continue and added that this measure by the Government is unacceptable. He said that the Government’s efforts will only result in an increment of between Rs.5,000 and Rs.11,000.

Secretary Stalin said a joint discussion was to be held yesterday with all trade unions to decide on future action.

He said that the unions will not accept any forced solutions. He added that they will provide the Government more time to discuss the issue.
