Samitha Dulan - top medal prospect at Tokyo Para Games

 Samitha Dulan is a top medal prospect for Sri Lanka at the Tokyo Paralympics which gets underway in Japan tomorrow.

The 30-year-old Corporal of the Sri Lanka Military Police will compete in the F-44 category of the javelin throw event.

The former schoolboy of Deniyaya Central and Rahula College, Matara took to para sports in 2017 after he suffered impairment in his right leg following a motorbike accident.

He was placed fourth at the World Para Athletics championships in Dubai, UAE in 2019 and his achievement paved the way for him to obtain a direct slot for the Tokyo Games.

Dulan is considered a sure medal prospect having improved tremendously throwing the javelin over 61m at a recent national meet.

“I had to keep away from sports for nearly two years following a motorbike accident but I am grateful to coach Pradeep Nishantha and Army officials for encouraging me to continue in sports,” he said.
