Bathiudeen’s brother-in-law to be produced in Court

Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajinda Jayasuriya yesterday ordered the Prison Superintendent to produce MP Rishad Bathiudeen’s brother-in-law Shiabdeen Ismat, before the Court on August 16.

The Cinnamon Gardens Police had reported to the Court that the suspect had raped a minor girl on two occasions in 2016 while she was working as a domestic aide in the house.

The suspect had allegedly taken the girl to a hotel room during a picnic in Nuwara Eliya and raped her. The complainant stated that although she had informed his wife about the incident, no action had been taken and that she had later left the servant job.

The Cinnamon Gardens Police are investigating the incident and will obtain statements from the victim girl, a resident of Dayagama. After informing the Court of the relevant facts, the Magistrate ordered the Superintendent of Prisons to produce the suspect Shiabdeen Ismat, who is currently in remand custody in connection with the case of the 16-year-old who succumbed to burn injuries after working at this household. The girl was referred to the Judicial Medical officer and the Magistrate ordered the Colombo South Divisional Children and Women’s Bureau to submit the medical report on the next calling date.
