Death of domestic: Further probe into Shankar’s bank accounts

Suspects to be produced before Court today

Further investigations are being carried out into the bank accounts of ‘Shankar’ who brought the minor girl to the residence of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the bank records have been obtained and investigations are underway and it has been confirmed that money has been credited to his account at a bank in Agarapathana, it was revealed.

The Police Spokesman also said that an extensive investigation is being carried out into the more than 30 statements and the bank statements of suspects involved in the matter.

Rishad Bathiudeen’s wife Shiabdeen Ayesha, her father Mohamed Shiabdeen, her brother Shiabdeen Ismat and the broker Ponnaiya Pandaram were arrested by the Borella Police.

They were produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Niranjana de Silva on July 24 and were produced before the Judicial Medical Officer after receiving a 48 hour detention order, he also said. The Police Media Spokesman also said they will be produced before Court on Monday (26) stating that they will take statements again as per the Court orders in connection with the investigation.

He further said that further investigations are being carried out on the suspected broker who was a member of the network that provides child labour to Colombo elites. The forensic medical report on the girl’s death revealed that she had been sexually assaulted. The suspected broker had recorded statements regarding the delivery of 11 children to relatives of Bathiudeen’s family. The police are investigating if the said girl committed suicide or someone forced her to or if someone took her life.
