Sithmini Udarika the outstanding sportswoman from Hungama

Volleyball player athlete and cricketer Doadampahala Arachchige Sithmini Udarika has brought honour and fame to her Alma Mater Vijayaba National School Hungama and she was born on 13th July 1999 and she was admitted to Vijayaba National School in 2005 when Mr. Rathnayake was the Principal and her first class teacher was Mrs. Neeta and she did not participate in any sports activities until 2013. Sithmini lost her mother Chandralatha Muthumala due to the Tsunami in 2004 and since then her aunt Malini Renuka looked after Sithmini and her sister and her support carried a long way in Sithmini’s success for sports and education.

In 2014 her aunt handed over Sithmini to Master in Charge of volleyball Tharaka Rathnaweera and teacher in Charge of volleyball Mrs. Asoka and in the following year participating in the School Inter House Under 13 Volleyball tournament her team was placed third and in the same year their school participated in the Youth Open Meet for girls from Ambalantota Division and they were the Runners Up and in the Divisional, Zonal and Provincial they came first and in the All Island Schools Tournament they could not come up to expectations and in the under 17 they won the Divisional and Zonal and they were victorious in the Provincial Tournament.

Then in 2016 they were the Provincial Champions and in the DSI All Island Tournament they came third and in the Ministry of Sports Open Festival Tournament they were the Provincial Champions. Then in 2016 The Police Department 150th Anniversary Tournament for girls from Tangalle they won the first place and in the Police Tournament for Hambantota District they were the Champions and Sithmini carried away the Best Player’s Award. In the 2017 Provincial Tournament they came first after going through the lower level process and in the All Island Schools Under 20 Tournament they clinched the Trophy and in the DSI under 20 Tournament they were the Runners Up and in the Dialog All Island Tournament she represented Pubudu Wijaya Sports Club and could not come up to expectations.

In cricket she represented the 2015 Inter House Tournament and her house won the Championship and until 2019 she participated in the Inter House Cricket Tournaments and in volleyball too she represented her house during a school career. Her coaches were Mr. Ilangarathne and Mr. Hashan respectively. She took part in Athletics in the Inter House Athletic Meets from 2017 and she won the 800 and 1500 metre events and in the Zonal Meet she came second in both events and her coach was Mr. Wickramarathne. Though Sithmini lost her mother her father D. A. Siripala helped her all the time along with her aunt for her to come up the ladder.
