Amban Ganga crocodile population on the rise

It has been revealed that the crocodile population in the Amban Ganga, one of the main water bodies of the Mahaweli Scheme, has been growing since of late.

Meanwhile, residents of Naula said crocodile numbers are increasing in several places along the river. They said that the situation has been caused by the constant flow of water from the river to the Opalgala junction, where crocodiles from the Bowatenna Mahaweli Reservoir arrive at.

People living in the area face a great threat due to this. They urged the Wildlife Conservation Department to take steps to relocate the crocodiles immediately.
