Gampaha fisher families to get Rs. 5,000 allowance

The fishermen whose livelihood was affected due to the X-Press Pearl ship fire mishap off Colombo Port will be paid an allowance of Rs. 5.000 from tomorrow (15), Gampaha District Secretary Sunil Jayalath said.

Over 9,883 fishery families will benefit by this move. Livelihood of over 7,753 fishery families were affected and 2,130 families involved in related industries were also deprived their income following this incident.

He said 8,033 fishery families in the Negombo DS division, 1,565 families in the Wattala DS division and 768 in the Ja-Ela DS division have been affected following this incident.
