Lorry transporting poultry falls into Victoria Reservoir

A lorry carrying 1,500 chickens from Bibila to Gampola ran off the road near the Moragahamula Bridge on the Mahiyangana-Kandy main road and fell into the Victoria Reservoir, killing the driver and the chickens.

“The deceased has been identified as Ashen Danushka Panagoda, 31, a resident of Meegasmulla, Katukitula. The accident had taken place while the chickens were being transported to a poultry farm in Gampola,” Police said. The cause of the accident has not been revealed yet and Police suspect that the driver may have fallen asleep. Investigations are being conducted under the direction of Teldeniya SSP Jagath Saram.
