CAA gets tough with LP Gas makers, traders

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued an extraordinary gazette notification on Wednesday (9) directing all manufacturers and traders of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) that they shall ensure that adequate quantities of the domestic cylinders weighing 12.5kg containing LPG shall be available for sale at all LPG sales outlets countrywide.

The Gazette notification further states that, no trader who has in his possession or custody or under his control the domestic cylinders weighing 12.5 kg containing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for purpose of trade within Sri Lanka shall refuse to sell the domestic cylinders weighing 12.5 kg containing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or in any manner directly or indirectly compel consumers not to purchase such cylinders. This Direction came into effect from June 9, 2021.

The gazette has been issued by CAA Chairman Maj.Gen.(Retd) Shantha Dissanayake under the powers of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 09 of 2003.
