Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure State Minister Nimal Lanza said that the main reason for inundation of several areas in the Wattala and Ja-Ela Electorates is unauthorised constructions and steps will be taken to remove them.
The State Minister was addressing a meeting at the Ministry yesterday.
He said that reports in this regard will be obtained from the Divisional Secretaries and unauthorised structures will be demolished soon. He said that the Gampaha District Secretary has already been instructed to take necessary action.
“The construction of the Ja-Ela Canal was planned to let the water flow into Mathurajawela. The areas from where the water has been flowing in the past have been illegally occupied by several businessmen. Therefore, steps will be taken to demolish these structures,” State Minister Nimal Lanza said.
