Cabinet approves drafting a National Cultural Policy

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal made by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs to draft a new National Cultural Policy further revising the existing policy.

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Miniter Keheliya Rambukwella told this week’s Cabinet media briefing held yesterday that Cabinet approval has also been granted to appoint a Committee of intellectuals with broad knowledge on the subject representing all cultures to draft the policy.

A National Cultural Policy has been prepared and gazetted for the first time in 2007. Thereafter, no further actions have been taken, although approval of the Cabinet of Ministers has been granted in 2017 to prepare a National Art and Cultural Policy by further revising the said National Cultural Policy.

By now, a National Cultural Policy to suit contemporary requirements has arisen.
