Hockey, taekwondo, netball AGMs halted

The scheduled Annual General Meeting (AGM) of hockey, taekwondo and netball were not held due to various reasons, Sports Ministry sources revealed yesterday.

The hockey and taekwondo AGMs had to be halted due the writ orders obtained by certain individuals over the selection of candidates. In addition, the netball AGM was not held as the authorities concerned had failed to clear the objections with the Election Commission.

The cases related to hockey and taekwondo AGMs are likely to be taken up in Courts in the coming weeks and the Sports Ministry is awaiting the outcome to pursue with further action.

The Netball Federation has been granted permission until June 30 to finalise their objections and to hold their election on or before the said date.

"We have to wait for the outcome of the Courts to finalise the hockey and taekwondo elections,” Amal Edirisooriya, Director General of the Sports Ministry told the Daily News yesterday.

“We have given clear instructions to the Netball Federation to clear all objections and to hold their AGM before June 30," he added. (AN)
