Kerala Cannabis worth Rs.63 m seized in four days

The Northern and North Central Naval Commands seized about 212 kg and 235g of Kerala cannabis, worth over Rs.63 million in the past four days.

During a special foot patrol conducted in Masankuda beach area, Madagal yesterday morning, the Navy seized about 101 kg and 700g of Kerala cannabis attempted to be smuggled into the island. Further, a suspect and a dingy used to transfer the narcotics were also taken into custody.

The Northern Naval command, during a special foot patrol conducted in Masankuda beach area, Madagal seized two gunny sacks of Kerala cannabis while they being unloaded from a suspicious dinghy. Along with the stock of Kerala cannabis, the dinghy and the suspect involved in the racket were also held by the Navy. During a further search of the area, two more sacks of Kerala cannabis were recovered.

The street value of the seized consignment of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs.30 million.

Another patrol conducted by the Navy in the seas north of Mannar led to the seizure of 29kg and 800g of Kerala cannabis along with a dinghy and two suspects. The street value of the stock of Kerala cannabis held is believed to be over Rs. 8 million.
