The Eastern Province recorded 8,835 COVID cases and 144 deaths until May 31 while Kalmunai reported 1,702 COVID cases and 15 deaths, Kalmunai Regional Health Services Director Dr. G.Sugunan said.
He said that 16,453 PCR tests and 18,897 RATs have been conducted in Kalmunai. Kalmunai reported two COVID cases in the first wave, 1,468 in the second wave and 233 in the third wave.
Sri Lanka recorded 183,452 COVID cases and 1,441 deaths so far. When compared to other countries, Sri Lanka is in a better place.
Recently a new virus was found in Vietnam. We, therefore, urge the public to act responsibly and cooperate with health authorities to combat the virus, Dr. G.Sugunan said.
