May 24, 25 declared as special government holidays

May 24 (Monday) and May 25 (Tuesday) were declared as Special Government Holidays, stated the the Ministry of Public Administration. The Secretary to the Ministry further stated, this does not include the bank and mercantile sectors.

Special public holidays on May 24, 25

The Government has declared May 24 and 25 as special holidays for the public sector. Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry Secretary J.J. Rathnasiri said the decision was taken for the convenience of the people as travel restrictions have been imposed by the Government to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

The circular in this regard will be issued today.However, he said this special holiday would not apply to the bank and mercantile sectors, and those sectors would have to announce separately if they take a similar decision.
