The Air Force has planned to help police manage traffic in Colombo with the use of drones.

On the instructions of Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Air Force Drone Operators have been assigned to help police and the Special Task Force in this endeavour.

The use of drones for traffic management would give police officers the following advantages:

• Diverting traffic strategically along alternate routes during traffic jams and road accidents.

• Identifying perpetrators of traffic laws easily through aerial monitoring.

• Surveilling VIP vehicles and guiding ambulances through routes with low traffic.
