Navy Commander reviews progress of multiple COVID-19 Treatment Centre Projects

Navy Commander Vice-Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne reviewed the progress of the COVID-19 Intermediate Care Centre being set up in Gampaha on Saturday.

The Navy Commander also inspected the Wathupitiwala, Gampaha, and Minuwangoda Hospitals, a Navy communiqué stated.

The Navy is also undertaking the renovation of a factory in Werellawatta, Gampaha, which is to be turned into a COVID-19 treatment centre that would accommodate 1,000 beds under the project’s first phase, and 2,000 beds under the second phase. Vice-Admiral Ulugetenne reviewed the progress of this project during his visit as well, the statement said.

The Navy Commander also looked into the progress of the new ward complex being set up at the Wathupitiwala Base Hospital for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. Moreover, the Navy is also renovating three ward complexes at the Gampaha General Hospital to treat COVID-19 patients in order to increase their capacity for 50 extra beds each, the press release added.

Meanwhile, the Navy is also renovating two more ward complexes at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital. Visiting the construction site, Vice-Admiral Ulugetenne urged the sailors to expedite their work.
