Inclement weather affects 2,413 in Galle; relief being granted

Inclement weather has affected 2,413 persons belonging to 807 families in 151 Grama Niladhari Divisions in 19 Divisional Secretariat Divisions during past few days in the Galle District, Galle District Secretary Shantha Weerasinghe said.

Two persons died and one was injured in the inclement weather. Thirteen houses have been partially damaged and two houses have been completely damaged. Eleven small and medium scale business locations have been damaged, the District Secretary said.

The Thawalama, Nagoda, Neluwa, Yakkalamulla, Kadawathsatara, Niyagama, Habaraduwa, Elpitiya, Ambalangoda, Baddegama, Imaduwa, Bope Poddala, Akmeemana, Welivitiya, Divithura Gonapinuwala, Karandeniya, Hikkaduwa, Balapitiya and Bentota Divisional Secretariats have been affected by the extreme weather.

Flood waters are now receding. Owners of damaged houses are being compensated now, he said.

Galle District Secretary Shantha Weerasinghe visited Nagoda to provide reliefs for the affected people.
