Extreme weather wreaks havoc in Galle

Incessant rains in the Galle district has affected 4,336 people from 1,228 families in 13 Divisional Secretariat Divisions, Galle Disaster Management Centre (DMC) officials disclosed.

This disaster situation has affected 87 Grama Niladhari Divisions. One person was reported drowned in the floods and one person was reported injured. Further, 91 houses were partially damaged and eight small and medium enterprises were damaged.

The catastrophe affected Thawalama, Neluwa, Nagoda, Yakkalamulla, Kadawatha Sathara, Niyagama, Habaraduwa, Elpitiya, Ambalangoda, Baddegama, Imaduwa, Bope Poddala and the Akmeemana Divisional Secretariat areas.DMC officials further said that 1,213 persons belonging to 325 families in the Nagoda Divisional Secretariat Division and 1,870 persons belonging to 500 families in the Galle Four Gravets Divisional Secretariat Division had been affected. “Measures have been taken to provide cooked and dry rations to the victims as required,” DMC sources assured.
