The Kurunegala Nillakgama Bodhigaraya, considered to be the only one of its kind in the world, has been neglected by the authorities for a long time, residents of the area stated.
As the historic site is located in a jungle area, very few people visit it. The majority of those visiting the site include university students and archaeologists, they added.
There is only one toilet near the site, and it is dilapidated and overrun with weeds. There are no access roads leading to the site; just a single footpath, residents said. They requested the authorities to renovate the site immediately.
