Navy apprehends five off Mannar Coast

The Sri Lanka Navy on Tuesday apprehended a person who was returning to the Mannar area by a small boat after having flown to India by air. Along with the suspect, two persons aboard and another two suspects involved in smuggling were also taken into naval custody.

The person returning from India by illegal means is a resident of Jaffna while the two smugglers and another two individuals are residents of Mannar. All of these individuals were directed to quarantine through the Public Health Inspectors of the area.

The Navy remains alert with regard to illegal activities of this nature in Sri Lankan waters, to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in the country.
