‘Dhammikapeniya’ cannot be manufactured - Ministry

Secretary to the Ministry of Promotion of Indigenous Medicine, Development of Rural Ayurvedic Hospitals and Community Health Kumari Weerasekara has informed Dhammika Bandara, who produced an ayurvedic syrup to treat COVID-19 patients in writing, that hereafter, the ayurvedic syrup called ‘Dhammikapeniya’ should not be manufactured as the clinical tests done on that ayurvedic syrup has proved to be unsuccessful in using it as a medicine to treat COVID-19.

Hence, that syrup cannot be given to the people even as a supplementary food against the COVID-19 pandemic, Kumari Weerasekara has informed Dhammika Bandara of Kegalle.

“This was done following tests conducted on the Ayurvedic syrup,” said Kurunegala District Assistant Commissioner of Ayurvedic Medicine Dr. A. Jayathilaka Bandara when contacted by the Daily News.
