Former DLB Chairman acquitted

Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C.Ragala yesterday acquitted former Development Lotteries Board Chairman Chandrawansa Pathiraja from four bribery cases filed against him.

The Magistrate made this order considering submissions made by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. Additional Director Shamadhi Wijesinghe appearing on behalf of the Bribery Commission has informed the Magistrate that the previous charge sheets will be withdrawn.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed this case against former DLB Chairman under Section 70 of the Bribery Act.

The case was filed against Chandrawansa Pathiraja on charges of incurring a loss of Rs.64 million to the government in 2010 during his tenure as Development Lotteries Board Chairman by dealing with private institutions that had not signed agreements for the sale of lotteries.
