Devmini Maleesha Ratnaweera a fine athlete and volleyball player

Sixteen year old Athlete and Volleyball Player Vidyapedige Devmini Maleesha Sandeepani Ratnaweera has brought honour and fame to her school Wekada Maha Vidyalaya Dankotuwa.

Devmini was admitted to the Grade One of Etiyawala Maha Vidyalaya in 2011 and the then Principal was Mr. Vipulasiri and her first class teacher was Mrs. Padmini. Then in 2014 she was admitted to Rathnajothi Primary school and when she was there she participated in Relay Events at the Annual Sports Meets in 2015 and 2016 and her team was victorious in both years.

Then in 2016 she was drafted to Wekada Maha Vidyalaya Dankotuwa and in that year she participated in the 100 and 200 metre events and came second and her coach was Mr. Gayan and in the following year at the Inter House Sports Meet she took part in 100, 200 and 4x100 metre relay. On a request made by the Prefect of Games and the Volleyball Coach Saman Bandara from the under 12 girls of the school to attend volleyball practices and Devmini’s parents Sunanda Rathnaweera and Buddhika Priyadarshani encouraged their daughter to take up to volleyball in 2017. In her first year it self she got selected to the Volleyball team and they came up to second place at the Divisional and District Level and at the Provincial Tournament they were un successful.

In the following year their under 14 team came up to District Tournament and they were the runners up and in the following year too their team came second in the DSI District Tournament and at the same time they were adjudged as one of the All Island Best Eight Teams. With the outbreak of Corona they had to keep away in 2020. This year with the support of the Principal Mr. Vithana, Volleyball Coach Saman Bandara and . Gayan they have commenced practices seriously.
