University Courses to train manpower for fisheries industry

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry in collaboration with the Ocean University of Sri Lanka will conduct several internationally accepted courses.

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda said that repairing boat engines, underwater welding, cultivating in lagoons, training in sea mapping communication equipment, fishery gear, sea harvesting and scuba diving courses will be conducted at the Ocean University Mattakkuliya, Panadura, Galle, Tangalle, Batticaloa, Trincomale, Jaffna and Negambo Faculties.

“A high number of trained persons are needed to promote the fisheries industry. School leavers are reluctant to join the field. Therefore, the Government has allocated funds to provide the training for those who are willing to enter the field, Minister Devananda said.
