The first zonal office of the Condominium Management Authority was declared open at Maligawatta Housing Complex on April 5, signifying further expansion of its services.

This was the first pilot zonal office out of four to be established in the Colombo District by the Condominium Management Authority under the concept of “A comfortable home for each family” as envisaged in the ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ policy framework. The office was declared open by the Chairman of the Authority, Attorney-at-Law, Sarana Karunaratne and General Manager Dr. Indunil Liyanage.

A key objective of setting up these zonal offices in line with a concept posited by Karunaratne and Dr. Liyanage is to regulate and maintain condominium properties and prevent the construction of unauthorized structures and expedite the removal of such structures. Similarly, it is proposed to regulate the multi-storey housing complexes being constructed as part of the new housing drive of the Government easily through these offices.

As the initial step, the Authority will make necessary interventions to address prevailing issues at the Maligawatta Housing Complex expeditiously and residents too can seek solutions to their problems.

The following functions too are expected to be carried out by the Condominium Management Authority. 1. Infrastructure facilities required for conducting the general meetings of Management Corporations and matters incidental thereto. 2. Inspecting the maintenance and condition of such properties. 3. Making interventions to resolve issues that arise in respect of properties.

Further, the Chairman and the General Manager stated that action would be pursued to establish provincial offices in other provinces for the monitoring and regulation of public and private multi-storey housing complexes being built apace across the country.
