An associate of Arumahandi Janith Madusanka De Silva alias Podi Lessie was arrested in Gurullawala in Ahangama on Wednesday along with a 9mm revolver, 5mm bullets and two mobile phones, Galle Police Special Task Force (STF) Special Operation Unit said.
The 38-year-old suspect is a cannabis smuggler. A resident of Gurullawala, Ahangama, he had provided accommodation to Podi Lessie about three years ago.
Podi Lessie had allegedly deposited Rs. 8 million in the suspect's bank account.
The suspect had built a villa in Ahangama at a cost of Rs. 5 million and another Rs. 3 million was in the bank account.
He had Rs. 1.5 million in his bank account at the time of arrest, the STF said.
STF Commanding Officer DIG Waruna Jayasundara, Directors Buddhi Rohan Karunaratne and Buddhi D.P.A. Kodithuwakku carried out the arrest.
