Deshapremi Eksath Jathika Pakshaya Secretary General Sugath Hewapathirana has challenged Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa for a debate on any television channel.
He challenged the Opposition Leader not to spread baseless statements over the political situation in the country and come to a debate over any television channel of his choice on any date he wishes.
He said that as the Opposition Leader position is maintained with public funds, the main role of the person holding this position should be to criticize the Government's policies and programmes in a constructive manner. He added that public funds should not be wasted to spread baseless statements and false rumours.
He added that the President was elected only 16 months ago while the Government has been in power for less than a year. He added that the Opposition should not hinder the Government's moves to reverse all the damages caused to the country's economy by the Good Governance Government.
He also demanded the Opposition Leader to act in a responsible manner.
