Three suspects involved in an international human trafficking racket were arrested on March 27 by the Wellawatte Police, while the suspects were staying at a hotel in Wellawatte and seized passports, identity cards and documents including USD 1,900.
The suspects aged 28, 32 and 34 are residents of Kopay and Samanthurai.
The suspects had charged over Rs. 400,000 to send a person to Canada and European countries.
The suspects have smuggled people by boat and hand them over to international smugglers to be smuggled to Canada and European countries, Police said. SSP Sisira Pettathanthri under the Officer In-charge of the Wellawatte Police Chief Inspector Kapila Wijemanne along with a team including IP Sisira Kumara, SI Udaya Kumara, Sergeant Soysa and Constables Sanjeewa, Pushpakumara, Jayaratne, Surendra and Nadushan are investigating.
