Update:

WP schools begin on March 29 under new guidelines

Following recommendations by health authorities, the Education Ministry yesterday issued a special circular to open all grades in schools including pre-schools in the Western Province on March 29.

If an area gets isolated, schools in that particular area will be temporarily closed until the relevant period expires, the Ministry in a communiqué said. The circular also includes guidelines on how to conduct classes to protect children while adhering to social distancing measures.

Accordingly, classes for up to 15 students should be held every day of the week. Students should be divided into two groups of 16 to 30 and classes should be held one week apart. Classes with more than 30 students should be divided into three groups and classes should be held on an equal number of days. Relevant guidelines have been published on the official website of the Education Ministry (www.moe.gov.lk).

The school term for the first term will end on April 9 and the resumption for the second term will take place on April 19.
