Sri Lanka People’s Front (SLPP) Founder Basil Rajapaksa’s attention was drawn to the plight of a helpless family of five children in Theppankulam in the Anuradhapura Central Nuwaragam Divisional Secretariat Division and they were visited recently by State Minister Channa Jayasumanna, who looked into their issues.
Following the media coverage of the helpless family, Basil Rajapaksa requested the State Minister to look into the situation of the family and find ways to help them. State Minister Channa Jayasumana said the family will be provided with a land and assisted them to build a house. The mother - the breadwinner of the family – will be given a job.
The father has been working as a labourer until he met with an accident at work. They lived in a house owned by someone else and had to hand it over recently. Now they do not have a shelter.
The eldest of the five children dropped out of school to support his siblings and parents by taking up odd jobs.
