7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 12 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 571 Brigade of the 57 Division under the Security Force HQ-Kilinochchi jointly rushed to the Kandankulam tank bund area at Selvanagar, Kilinochchi last evening (21) and prevented an imminent burst of its bund due to continuing heavy rainfalls.
Laying sandbags around the threatened vulnerable spots, troops despite thick darkness at dusk plastered the affected tank bund spots in order to prevent a major flood that could wreak havoc in the area.
The emergency operation lasted till about midnight with the support of villagers and the emergency was closely supervised by the 571 Brigade Commander on the instructions of the Commander, SF-KLN and the GOC of the 57 Division.
On hearing the incident, the District Secretary and several state officials also arrived at the affected location and closely monitored the developments as heavy rains persisted.
