Grace period to settle electricity bills for isolated area consumers

The Cabinet of Ministers approved proposals made by the Power and Tourism Ministers to provide relief for electricity consumers affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

Addressing the media to inform the decisions taken at this week’s Cabinet meeting he said  the Cabinet of Ministers has granted a six months grace period from the date of the bill and avoid interruption of electricity connection for the domestic, commercial and industrial electricity consumers within the areas isolated for more than 14 days continuously in order to settle the electricity bills pertaining to the specified period.

Cabinet approval has also been granted to provide opportunity to settle electricity bills from the month of March to December 2020 of the film theaters registered under the National Film Corporation in 12 equal installments from the date of the relevant bill and avoid interruption of electricity connection until such time.

A decision has also been taken to provide opportunity to settle electricity bills and water bills piled up from March 1 2020 to February 28, 2021 of inns registered under Sri Lanka Tourist Development Authority and thereof without interruption of both supplies.
