The Department of Irrigation has warned that the water level of the Kala Oya is currently rising to 'minor flood' level due to the opening of the spill gates.
Accordingly, the people living in low-level areas of these rivers have been advised to move to safer locations due to the threat of floods.
In addition to the Kala-oya, the spill gates of the Thabbowa, Rajanganaya and Deduru Oya reservoirs have been opened owing to the inclement weather.
