Irrigation State Minister Anuradha Jayaratne yesterday inspected the renovation of the ditch and the sidewalls opposite the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
The renovation activities are being carried out by the Irrigation Department with the approval of Archaeological Department on a directive of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Renovation activities commenced on a request made by the Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela to the President. Part of the sidewall collapsed on Thursday following incessant rains and a special investigation is being conducted into the incident by the Archaeology and Irrigation Departments. State Minister Jayaratne said Cabinet had allocated Rs.65 million for the renovation activities and the renovation may cost more than the estimated cost due to the collapse of a part of sidewall.
“The President has given us instructions to complete renovation activities by allocating additional funds.Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela was also present.
