Final decision on O/L Exam in next 10 days – Minister

Education Minister Prof. G.L.Peiris yesterday said that the Government will make the final decision on holding the O/L Exam this year in the scheduled period during the next 10 days.

Addressing a media briefing held at the Government Information Department, yesterday, he added that special programme has been formulated to obtain information from the teachers to check in how much of the Grade 11 syllabus has been completed either in classrooms or online.

He added that the number of children returning to school following the nearly one month closure will be increased gradually. In cooperation with regional health and education directors, medical officers and school development executive committees, steps have been taken to ensure a healthy learning environment for children in schools.

In order to do that, the government has distributed funds to improve health and safety facilities at schools in provincial levels. Accordingly, Education Ministry has granted Rs. 6.5 million for the Central Province, Rs. 4.9 million for the Southern Province, Rs. 3.6million for the Northern Province, Rs. 4.6 million for the Eastern Province, Rs. 5.6 million for the Wayamba Province, Rs. 3 million for the North Central Province, Rs. 3.8.million for the Uva Province and Rs. 4.6 million for the Sabaragamuwa Province.
