MP Chandrakanthan, four others granted bail

Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal Party TMVP (leader) and Batticaloa District MP Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillaiyan and four others were granted bail yesterday (24).

They were in remand for the alleged murder of Batticaloa District TNA Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingam in 2005.

They were granted bail by the Batticaloa High Court.

The next hearing of this case has been fixed for December 8.

A few days back the Appeal Court had declared that the concession obtained in this case was contrary to the law and therefore they could not be accepted. When the case against Pillaiyan was called at Batticaloa bail was ordered by the Batticaloa High Court Judge.

Former Eastern Provincial Councillor Edvin Silwa Krishnananthraja, Kanaganayagam alias Gajan Mama, Army Intelligence officer M.Kaleel and former Army officer Mathusinghe alias Vinoth were remanded over the murder of former Batticaloa district MP Joseph Pararajasingam at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Puliyantivu, Batticaloa during Christmas Mass in 2005.
