Athletes who brought honour to Eastern Province felicitated

Eastern Province Department of Sports conducted their annual Sports Colours Awards Ceremony-2020 at the Ampara Hardy Technical College Auditorium recently to felicitate athletes who excelled in their respective sports and brought fame to Eastern Province at the 45th National Sports Festival and 13th South Asian Games in Nepal

Eastern Province Education, IT Education, Pre School Education, Sports, Cultural Affairs, Youth Affairs and Rehabilitation & Reconstruction Ministry Secretary I.K.G.Muthubanda presided over this function on the invitation of Eastern Province Sports Department Director N.M.Nowfees.

Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath graced the occasion as chief guest.

At the 45th National Sports Festival, the Eastern Province secured 24 medals including eight gold medals, six silver medals and 10 bronze medals and emerged runner up bagging 12 medals including four gold medals, three silver and five bronze medals in the 13th South Asian Games in Nepal. Eastern Province sports winners and their coaches were congratulated and felicitated by the Guests.

Eight Provincial champions too were felicitated. Guests of Honour at the ceremony Digamadulla District Parliamentarian Thilak Rajapaksa, Eastern Provincial Council Chairman Chandradasa Galapathy and Eastern Province Chief Secretary Thusitha P Wanigasinghe, special guests Ampara District Secretary D.M.L. Bandaranayake, Trincomalee District Secretary J.S.D.M.Asanka Abeywardena, Secretaries of the Eastern Provincial Ministries, Deputy Chief Secretaries and Departmental Heads distributed awards to the winners at the ceremony.
