Nirosha Sanjeewani outstanding women’s cricketer, volleyball player and athlete

The present Girls Cricket Coach of Tissa Central College, Kalutara and an old girl of the same school former member of the school under 19 team a, Club Cricketer and Umpire Nirosha Sanjeewani Mendis Wickramasinghe has brought honour to her Alma Mater. She bats right hand and is the No. 3 batswoman and wicket keeper.

Nirosha had her entire education at Tissa Vidyalaya and she was a member of the cricket team and its first year itself in 1994 her school won the Milo Six-A-SideTournament under the Physical Training Instructress and 14 teams from the country participated and Nirosha was adjudged as the Best all rounder of the tournament.

In 1998 she joined Kalutara Public Cricket Club under Praneeth Saluwadana. She played for the Lanka Ladies Club in the year 2000 and participated in the division one tournament organized by Sri Lanka Womens Cricket Association and sponsored by Liril and they emerged Champions in the tournament worked off at Shalika Grounds Colombo and Mr. Buultjens from Australia and Mrs. Doolwala were the coaches. Then they were the Runners Up in the Shammi Gunaratne Memorial Trophy Tournament.

After that she shifted to Colombo Cricket Club in 2007 under Mrs. Padma Karunaratne and they were the Runners Up.

Whilst at school she did Athletics in running events and she represented her school in Division, District levels and in volleyball she participated in the Inter House Competitions and in Elle she represented her Alma Mater in Divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial. the Udara Group Club and in the National Youth Sports Festival they were the Runners Up in1994

From there she joined Palink Sports Club and played for five years under Palitha Gunasekera in Division One Sri Lanka Premier League Tournament and in her first year they were the Runners Up and lost to Air Force in the 50 over game and she won the Best Batswoman Award by scoring 56 runs in the 50 over match and against Southern Province she was the highest scorer in 2013 and they came up to semi finals and lost to Sri Lanka Navy.

In 2017 she participated in Division, District, Provincial and National Level at the 43rd Sports Festival worked was off at Welagedara Stadium and they lost to Northern Province in the finals.

She coached Panadura Balika Vidyalaya in 2015 and 2016 and presently she is coaching her Alma Mater from Grade 5 to Ordinary Level girls In addition she had produced an under 23 player Nimasha Madushani in 2019 for the all island team and five of her trainees were selected for the Airtel Fielders coaching camp.

In addition she is coaching A. N. A. Sports Club and it’s Owner and President Sandun Buddhika is providing the cricket equipment free of charge for all the trainees.
