Vote on Account to pass Rs.1.3 Trillion in Parliament today

Another Resolution to borrow Rs.750 Billion Treasury Bills :
Budget for 2021 to be presented in November:

The Government will present a Vote on Account for Rs. 1.3 Trillion in Parliament today to cover Government expenses from September 1 to the end of this year.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will present the Resolution as the Finance Minister.

It will be debated in the House today and tomorrow. If a division is called, a vote will be held to pass the Vote on Account on Friday evening.The sessions will be held from 9.30 am to 6.30pm on both days without a lunch break.

This is the fourth Vote on Account for this year. The Government will present a full-Budget in November for the next year. As per the VoA, the Government hopes to raise Rs 1.3 Trillion by way of loans obtained locally and from overseas.

The highest allocation has been made to the Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry and the corresponding figure is Rs. 194.38 billion.

The Defence Ministry comes in second with an allocation of Rs.174 billion. The Finance Ministry has the third highest allocation of Rs.136 billion.

The Highways Ministry has been allocated Rs. 88 billion and the Health Ministry has been allocated Rs. 76 billion. The Education Ministry will get Rs. 70 billion.

The Water Supply Ministry has been allocated Rs. 35 billion, the Transport Ministry Rs. 33 billion, the Agriculture Ministry Rs. 28 billion and the Irrigation Ministry Rs.16 billion. At the same time, the Prime Minister will also present another Resolution under the Local Treasury Bills Ordinance to borrow a sum not exceeding Rs.750 billion by way of Treasury Bills. This sum is in addition to the above mentioned sum.
