Over 200 Lankans to be repatriated from Jordan

More than 200 Sri Lankan nationals stranded in Jordan due to the COVID-19 pandemic are due to be repatriated next week.

Newly appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Relations, Admiral (Rtd) Jayanath Colambage said, “A flight will leave for Jordan on August (18) and other destinations in the Middle East to bring the stranded Sri Lankans. Sri Lankans in Dubai, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar will also be repatriated in the coming weeks.” He further added, the repatriation process is taking place, as planned and flights are arriving frequently.

“The attention has also been directed to Lebanon after the August 4 in Beirut. There will also be a flight to Israel in the coming weeks”.

The repatriation process was temporarily halted due to COVID-19 cluster at the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre and the recent Parliamentary Elections.
