Pre-schools to re-open in August

UPDATE:  A Cabinet decision has been taken to re-open all pre-schools in the country from August 1, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

She said that the matter was extensively discussed at the Cabinet yesterday and that the Education Ministry also agreed to the decision.

According to Minister Wanniarachchi, the Navy COVID-19 cluster is now under control and the health authorities have taken full control of Kandakadu COVID-19 cluster.

Therefore, there is no social transmission of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka. Minister Wanniarachchi pointed out that COVID-19 patients can be found in the second round within the Kandakadu drug rehabilitation centre but not from the society. A total of 8,148 PCR Tests have been done so far in connection with this latest COVID-19 cluster found from Kandakadu.

“A total of 2064 COVID-19 patients out of 2730 patients have already been cured and have the left hospitals. There were only 11 deaths (0.4 percent) in Sri Lanka and the recovery rate of Sri Lanka is 75.6 percent which is much higher than the global rate of 60.42 percent. Only 655 (24 percent) COVID-19 patients still remain in hospitals,” she added.
