Temporary halt to flights from Friday

There will be a temporary halt in the repatriation of stranded passengers from Friday (17) due to the COVID-19 cases reported in the country.

President’s Foreign Relations Admiral Additional Secretary Prof. Jayanath Colombage said the current incoming flights carried migrant workers who had booked their flights in advance before the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre COVID-19 outbreak and the Foreign Ministry had allowed the flight from Jordan to land yesterday (14).

He added, stranded passengers from Jordan had quarantined at Army quarantine centres and had paid for the PCR tests. “More than 200 passengers had arrived from Jordan on a special SriLankan Airlines flight UL (1506) yesterday morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA)”.

Admiral Colombage said, there will be a flight from the Maldives today and on Friday (17) and an Emirates flight will arrive from Dubai with 60 passengers.

“All these flights were halfway in the process of repatriation and these passengers have done the required payments for the travel”.
