Education Ministry vigilant over COVID 19 spread

The Education Ministry today said it was closely monitoring the situation with regard to the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

 

The Ministry in a communiqué said any decision on education at schools will be made in consultation with health authorities.

 

The Education Ministry, under the directive of the subject Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, has set up an information centre connecting the education and health authorities. The Ministry has put up a hotline 1988 for the public for them to reach the centre. It has also issued two more contact details that include the telephone number 0112785818 and email [email protected].

 

The educational authorities in relevant divisions or regions can submit any information or concern over the spread of the COVID-19 virus in their areas via the contact details and process them and then alert the health authorities accordingly, it said.

 

The Ministry observed that it is extremely cautious about the safety of students, teachers, principals and other academic staff of educational institutes.
