Match fixing allegations: Aravinda to give statement

The Sport’s Ministry’s Special Investigation Unit probing 2011 World Cup match -fixing allegations has called former captain of Sri Lankan cricket team, Aravinda De Siva to make a statement in this regard.

Aravinda De Silva, who was the Chairman the Selection Committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket at the time, is expected to make his statement today on the matter.

Director of the Special Investigation Unit of the Ministry of Sport, SSP W.A.J.H. Fonseka, told the Daily News yesterday that they would take statements from those in line with the remit of the investigation.

The Unit had already recorded a statement in this regard from former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage who recently accused in a TV show that Sri Lanka “sold” the ICC World Cup final match to India in 2011.

Aluthgamage recently told this newspaper that the International Cricket Council had recently sent him a message informing him of their interest in discussing the match-fixing allegations he had raised.

The Sports Ministry’s Special Investigation Unit began investigating the allegations after the Secretary to Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministry had filed a complaint regarding the allegations.
