Today the women cricket coaches are trying to win matches as the Institutes concerned are more interested in victories, said women Cricketer, Coach and Official Scorer appointed by Sri Lanka Cricket, Niluka Amarasena.

“Due to this players are not interested in learning the basics and styles of the game but more interested in winning,” she said. As the Cricket materials are costly, it is very difficult to continue the Sport without the proper Sponsors. And these sponsors anticipate victories from players and this vicious circle has a negative impact on technique of players.”

This can be overcome if Institutions and clubs of Sri Lankan women cricketers play more matches to improve the standard of the games.

“However due to the Corona epidemic Cricket practices and matches are not being held.”

An old girl of Swarnamali Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy Amarasena has been a coach and official scorer since 2011. She has represented Kandurata Ladies Cricket Team which became Champions in 2009 & 2010.

In addition she represented Chilaw Marians and Matale District Women’s Cricket team at the Inter District Women’s Cricket Tournament for a number of years. She is a right hand middle order batswoman and a right arm off spinner. She can keep Wickets too and her best bowling figure is claiming 6 wickets for 12 runs against Kegalle District. Niluka is a Level I Cricket Coach who had her own Womens Cricket Academy for some years.
